Hey y’all. If you’re new here, welcome to the club, because so am I! I wanted to create a space where I could discuss my opinions, experience, feelings, as well as give any insight and recommendations to anyone who wants to follow along in the world of social work and fostering.
My husband and I have been married for eight years this year and on our very first date we discussed the longing for having a large family as well as adopting children (heavy first date topic right?). I already had the passion for helping children in need, hence why I was a social worker. But then completely doing a 180 and quitting that life to be on the other end of the bridge and becoming a licensed foster home, is a whole different road.
So I hope you grab your favorite cup of coffee and sip it slowly as you keep up-to-date with my blog and follow along in our journey. To Christ to be the glory.
So how did we get here?
On November 29, 2022 we became a fully licensed foster home with the state of Texas. Prior to that I worked for almost 7 years with the state of Texas as a social worker as many different positions. Talk about one end of the swing to the other! I wanted to create a safe place where I could share our experience to encourage others in both social settings as well as the foster adoption world. Although I worked for the state for seven years and we have now been a licensed foster home for 2 1/2 years, I still feel as though there are a lot of unknown grey areas and a lot of conversations that don’t happen revolving both worlds. That’s why I wanted to create this space. To discuss, talk, encourage, and lift up other families who may have the desire to step into the social work or fostering world.
